Built on the site of Chelmsford’s original market, Shire Hall is the town’s most famous landmark. This grand Georgian building is situated in the centre of town, its Portland stone facade overseeing Chelmsford’s busy high street.

Chelmsford Cathedral and its grounds are located next door and the bus and rail stations are only five minutes walk away. Shire Hall is a highly flexible venue and arguably one of the best wedding venues in Chelmsford it can also be used for balls, conferences, corporate events and meetings.

The County Room or Ballroom is not only the largest (320 capacity) but is also the grandest room in Shire Hall and is quite simply magnificent. Once in the room you are surrounded by 200 years of history, style, sophistication and elegance. The County Room has recently been totally and lovingly restored with the help of English Heritage to its original Georgian style of decoration. This is a special room for the most splendid of occasions.
